Seasonal Home Guide
What's stirring this summer
|

Hi Sarah,
Summer is here, and so are the pests that come with it. As the weather heats up across the Greater Sacramento area, insects and rodents get a lot more active and a lot more interested in your home. Here is a quick seasonal rundown from our team, plus a few easy things you can do between visits to stay ahead of them.

The Lead
Ant season is in full swing
When temperatures climb and the ground dries out, ants come indoors looking for two things: water and food. Kitchens and bathrooms are the usual hot spots. You will often see them trailing along countertops, baseboards, or around sinks.
A few things that help: wipe down counters at night, keep pet food sealed, and rinse recyclables before they go in the bin. If you see a trail, try not to wipe it out with cleaner right away, since it can scatter the colony and spread the problem. That is exactly what your regular service is built to handle, so give us a call if they show up between treatments.

Wasps and yellowjackets are at their peak
Mid to late summer is when wasp and yellowjacket nests are largest and most active. Keep an eye on eaves, fences, sheds, and around your roofline. If you spot a nest, it is best not to knock it down yourself, since late-summer colonies are bigger and more defensive than they look. Give us a call and we will handle it safely.

Oriental and Turkestan cockroaches are summer invaders
Oriental and Turkestan cockroaches are common summer problems around the Greater Sacramento area. They often move in from damp exterior areas, irrigation boxes, drains, garages, and yard clutter when the weather gets hot. Keep exterior doors sealed, reduce moisture near the foundation, and call us if you start seeing them around patios, garages, or entryways.

|
Five-minute summer checklist
— Check door sweeps and window screens for gaps
— Fix outdoor leaks, since pests are hunting for water
— Trim branches and shrubs back from the house
— Keep trash bin lids tight and the area clean
